Caring for Your Child While Putting Your Own Needs Last

When your child is struggling, their needs can take up all of your attention. You're watching for changes, booking appointments, and making careful decisions while the rest of family life keeps moving.
Somewhere in there, it's easy to think, "I'll deal with how I'm feeling later." I totally get it. When one of my children needs me, I give them everything I have. I also know how exhausting it is to care for a child, especially when you're worried and the next step is unclear.
In my practice, I take time to get to know each child. I listen to what parents are noticing and what daily life looks like for their family. Sometimes a mother tells me she's having a hard time, too. I want her to know she can say that here, too.
Your child's care can stand on its own. Your support might look like rest, help from someone close to you, or self-care. You deserve a moment to ask what you need.
Putting your child first may be the right choice for now. Your needs still matter.
