How to Track Progress Between Homeopathy Appointments

It's natural to measure progress by one thing: is the rash gone? Is the anxiety gone? But homeopathy treats the whole person, so progress usually shows up as a pattern, not a single symptom disappearing overnight especially if you've been dealing with chronic illness or various other symptoms for years!

Between appointments, I'm tracking the full picture: physical symptoms, energy, sleep, emotional resilience, and daily functioning. The more you notice and bring to your follow-up, the more precisely your homeopath can adjust your remedy. Here's what to watch for.

Physical Symptoms

Start with what you already know to watch: the rash, the headache, the digestive flare, the recurring infection. Go a layer deeper than "better" or "worse."

Notice whether a symptom has:

  • Improved in intensity, even if it hasn't disappeared

  • Changed location (this is often a meaningful shift, not a setback)

  • Shown up less often, or for shorter stretches

  • Stayed the same, but with less impact on your day

  • Appeared alongside something new

A rash that's still there but less angry counts. A headache that's shorter and milder counts. Mention it, even if it isn't fully resolved.

Energy and Sleep

This is often the first place clients notice a shift, sometimes before the main complaint moves at all.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I have more energy between symptoms?

  • Is sleep deeper or more restorative, even if it's not perfect?

  • Am I falling asleep more easily, or waking less at night?

  • Am I waking up rested instead of depleted?

For kids, this might look like falling asleep without a fight, sleeping through the night more consistently, or waking in a better mood.

Emotional Resilience

Emotional shifts matter as much as physical ones. They're often the quieter sign that something is working.

Notice how quickly you or your child recover after something hard: a disappointment, a correction, a stressful moment. Is there more room to feel upset without it spiraling? A child who used to melt down for an hour and now recovers in ten minutes is making real progress, even if the original concern hasn't cleared yet.

Frequency and Recovery Time

If you're dealing with something recurring, colds, ear infections, eczema flares, emotional spirals, track two things: how often it happens and how long it lasts.

Ask:

  • Are these episodes happening less often?

  • When they happen, are they shorter?

  • Are they resolving more easily?

A child who used to get strep four times a year and now gets it twice, with a milder course each time, is on a healing trajectory, even though strep hasn't disappeared completely.

Daily Functioning

This one is easy to overlook, and it's often the change clients are most relieved to talk about once they notice it.

What feels easier now that used to feel hard? A morning routine without a meltdown. A workday that doesn't hit a wall by 2pm. A change in plans that doesn't cause panic. This is often the clearest sign a remedy is working, even before the original complaint has cleared.

What to Bring to Your Follow-Up

You don't need a polished report. Brief, honest notes are exactly what we need as homeopaths. Before your next appointment, jot down:

  • A rough timeline of what's changed and when

  • Any triggers you've noticed (foods, weather, stress, transitions)

  • Other supports you've used in between (supplements, therapy, diet changes)

  • Any new symptoms, even ones that seem unrelated to why you came in

  • What's better, what's worse, what's simply different

Keep a running note on your phone between sessions if that's easier. Real-time notes beat a summary pieced together the night before.

Healing rarely moves in a straight line, and it doesn't always show up through the symptom you first came in for. Bring me (or your homeopath) the whole picture, energy, sleep, resilience, frequency, daily life, and we can see the pattern underneath it and adjust your remedy accordingly.
